Who's Behind This
GetFakeName is built and run by one person, a solo developer who goes by Romeo Lampwick online. There's no company behind it and no funding round. I built this site because I was sick of typing "Test Testerson" into form fields while building other projects and figured other people probably felt the same way.
Why This Exists
Sooner or later, most developers, writers, and generally privacy-minded people need a name that isn't theirs. Maybe it's for testing a signup form, naming a character, or just not wanting to hand a random website your real information. A lot of the existing tools for this felt clunky, buried in pop-ups, or only really worked for one country's names. This site is meant to fix that: quick to use, covers a wide range of naming conventions, and stays out of your way while you use it.
What This Site Is (and Isn't)
GetFakeName generates names, addresses, and placeholder identity data for things like fiction writing, tabletop games, and software testing. It's not a tool for generating real identities, and it doesn't produce anything like government ID numbers. It also shouldn't be used to impersonate an actual person. The disclaimer covers this in more detail.
How It's Run
No accounts. No email signup. The tools are free and that isn't changing. Every name gets generated right in your browser, so nothing gets sent to a server or logged anywhere. You also won't run into pop-ups or intrusive overlays on this site; that's a line I don't cross. The site pays for itself through display ads, kept clearly separate from the actual tools, so it can stay free without needing anyone's data.
What's Next
This is the first of what I hope becomes a small lineup of straightforward, useful tools. What gets built next mostly depends on what people ask for, so if there's a generator you wish existed, the feedback form is the place to say so.
